An eclectic Gospel selection

Intriguing Ozarks band allures with heady mix https://youtu.be/clBy6gyOOjc

A wondrous a capella performance of the original song "Not Afraid of Bad News" will strike your ear as you listen to an eclectic mix of mostly original Gospel numbers by that strangely novel band, the Petersens. https://www.youtube.com/@ThePetersens on their latest album, "Father, a Moment with You."

This remarkable piece, loaded with harmony and counterpoint, was written by Katie and her musical alter ego, Emmett Franz, who doesn't perform on this number at all.

Another song by Katie and Emmett has a very Katie-like sound to it, judging by other songs written by Katie. "Come Back Home" wraps a basic Gospel message in a sweet Bluegrass-Pop blend.

Katie sings the group collaboration number, "Father, a Moment with You," as only Katie could or would sing it. What she does is beyond words, really.

The remaining cuts are all highly appealing, including the old standbys. I especially enjoyed Matt's lead vocal on "Where the Soul of Man Never Dies." (I suspect they had already chosen that piece before I recommended it as suitable for them.)

Julianne's uniquely sweet voice entrances on the Celtic-style "Overseer of My Soul." And the Irish instrumentation is quite a bit of fun.

Ellen is, as always, highly compelling on her lead vocals in "Goodness of the Lord" and the rhythmic "Gonna Keep Prayin'."

And you will like "Lord, How Long?" written by Zach White and sung by Emmett.

You may purchase the album (scroll down) or find it on Youtube (a platform where the sound quality is an iffy proposition).

And in case you doubt who was the primary driving force behind this album, observe that Katie gets songwriting credit on six of the seven original numbers.

The Petersens write:
Our most personal project to date, Father, A Moment With You, is a collection of songs centered on faith, featuring seven original songs, one written by our friend Zach White (who performs with Keith & Kristyn Getty), and three beloved hymns.

This project was recorded at Forty-One Fifteen Studio in Nashville, TN with Dewey Boyd and Cory Halterman as the recording engineers. Preproduction of the album was by Ron Block. The album was produced by Zeb Snyder alongside Katie Petersen and Emmett Franz. The album was mixed by Dewey Boyd and mastered by Adam Grover. Check out the audio on Apple Music to enjoy it in its full Dolby Atmos potential; Dolby Atmos mastered by Troy Dixon. The [album cover] artwork is by Parker Hale.
